For all of you who would like to read something written by our GoH, Darko Macan, we bring you here his short story Across the Kalavalahalatine.
This catchy alien’s point of view story won the first place on the short-story competition, as a part of Istrakon 2005 - one of Croatian SF&F conventions. It was first published in short SF stories collection Above and below. The translation (by Tatjana Jambrišak) was published in the special Worldcon 2005 edition of Parsek, the oldest Croatian fanzine, dating from 1977 as the bulletin of science fiction club SFera from Zagreb.
We hope you will enjoy it.

Where can I get this story in Croatian? I’d love to read the original (I believe I speak enough Croatian for that
), but I cannot find it anywhere.
If it isn’t available online, could someone at least tell me what was the Croation word that got translated as “bitches”? I have read a Polish version where it was translated as “samki” – a word slightly dated in a cute way, and certainly without the offensive load of English “bitches” carries in English. I think this completely changes the story’s tone!
Hi!
Unfortunately, the Croatian version was not published online, only the English one. The Croatian word in the original is “ženke” (females). However you can find this story not only in the SF stories collection “Above and below” (2005), but also in Darko Macan’s SF stories collection “42 pročitaj i daj dalje” (2009), which will be available on Eurocon 2012 Book Fair.
